How We Have Loved

A film by Gustav Ågerstrand

Sara Parkman has revolutionized Swedish folk music with her unique expression and style. She is inspired by folk music as an anti-nationalistic practice and as a queer feminist, she is reclaiming the traditional music from the far right who tries to use it for patriotic purposes. The breakthrough album ‘Vesper’ takes Europe by storm, propelling Sara into the public eye, appearing frequently in the media and performing to sold-out venues. However, there’s something unsettling in this success story. The love for art can make one lonely because when the fire burns brightest, it also hurts.

In ’How We Have Loved,’ we meet the person behind Sara Parkman’s strong stage persona. We journey to her childhood home in the north of Sweden and into the creative process with co-creator and best friend Hampus Norén. A new album begins to take shape, centered around a subject Sara has long avoided – love.”
