Salad Hilowle is a filmmaker and artist. His artistic practice revolves around identity, memories and place, His short film “Letter to Sweden” was shortlisted for Goldbaggenomination, and an honorary mention in Tempo Documentary Festival for best short film. The same film was also seen by more than 1 million on TV in 2017. In the same year, Hilowle made artistic decoration at the IFO house in Tierp. 2018
Hilowle has roots in Somalia and Gävle, resides in Stockholm. In 2015 he received one of Sweden’s largest scholarships, Karin and Erik Engmans scholarship. Hilowle was involved with the short film project Röst short film Waryaa, which was shown around the country. Hilowle is current right now with the art film program “Action” which is curated by Johanna Billing on the railroad subway. Hilowle’s two art films are shown April 1st-June 30th.
